I saw Serenity this weekend. It was great. Not the movie I was hoping for, but still very good none the less. Quite a few of the TV show fans felt "betrayed" by the movie. I can see this. The movie definetly does not set it up for a return of the TV show. It didn't end with a cliffhanger waiting for a sequel either, though the ending does make a sequel possible. Hopefully, there will be another movie, it only managed #2 this weekend, most people goign to see the awful flight plan. More stuff (spoilers) in the extended entry.
Okay so why did Wash have to die? It didn't add anything to the story, all it did was set up the fact that the characters were "mortal" but we'd already seen that with Shephard's death.
The who/what/how of the Reavers was great. I always that that they were just "crazy people" was a little weak.
Why did Joss have to make River into Buffy? That was just goofy.
Okay, THANK YOU. I turned to Hooker and his friend and Monketo after the first showing and said, "To every generation a Slayer is born."
I'm thinking prequels next. All major cast members have signed 3-picture deals. (Except supposedly Mal won't comment on it.) So I'm hoping for something that fleshes out the conflict between the outer colonies and the Alliance more than just "nobody likes being told what to do."
The Alliance/Outer Worlds conflict is supposed to be the Cival War sans Slavery. The Alliance wanted one big interplanetary goverment the independants wanted each planet to have their own government. It's semi-historical, the end of the civil war created the "old west" the end of the seperatist war creates the "old west" of Firefly.
Do they at some point go over where Book got all his combat knowledge? Just a yes or a no..
Unfortunately, no. It's a major disappointment among the people I've talked to.
Wow, Zero, sounds very Deadlands sans ghost rock.

Just saw the movie. Goddamn Wash! That was unnecessary. And the Reavers plotline was fantastic, that was my favorite part.
And I'm very glad Simon wasn't such a sissy in the movie. Hotness +10.
I theorize Book was once an alliance assasin just like the black dude. I guess we'll never know.
I agree with you demi me and zero went and saw it Saturday night and we came to the same assumption. Becasue the crew didn't know what the black guy was until Book told them he was an operative. Thought it was a good movie.
I thought the same about Book.
Box office dropped off considerably this weekend - I have strong doubts about a sequel.
But if there was one - one of the Buffyologists said that nobody stays dead in the Jossverse, so maybe we'll find out more on Book.
And yah - Wash - WTF? And Simon was some kind of salty goodness. I'm just saying.
