Home Owners Insurance

Today I am seraching for new Home Owners Insurence. I got a letter from my insurance agent yesterday informing me that my insurance company has gone bankrupt and I have until Aug 24th to get a new Home Owners Policy . I guess that basically means that I'm uninsured right now, since I could technically make a claim between now and August 24th but I doubt it would get paid since they are in bankruptcy. They are pretty much useless. Home Owners Insurance is required by law. If you do make a claim the companys goal is to pay you the least amount possible.

Dude, that sucks. Didn't you have like Texas Select? Or one of those regional carriers? We use State Farm. While they are probably a little more, at least if they started to go belly up, the government would probably step in.

We use Ameriprise formally American Express Insurance - their number is 800-842-3344

We only pay $343** per YEAR for home owners insurance - and yes we have damn good coverage. They won't even quote you if you've had a recent claim or for other reasons but if they quote you it's usually a really good rate. My auto insurance is with them too and its a fantastic rate too.

**I think I get a big discount like 50% for having a newer construction home.

LEt me know what you find out.

Yeah I had Texas Select, they were the largest insurence carrier in Texas. The government did step in which is why I still have coverage ATM.

Thanks for the # Katie. I'll give them a call but A LOT of insurence companies won't write policies in Texas.

After them, it was going to be Liberty Mutual so you should try them. I remember what a huge pain it was shopping for it with a pool & a dog that's considered a dangerous breed.

Reading

I just finshed Codelia's Honor by Lois McMaster Bujold which is the first book of the Vorkosigan Saga.
Very good book, but the Sci-Fi bits are really secondary to the story.

Right now I'm reading The Lost Fleet Series by John Hemry/Jack Campbell It's sorta Honor Harrington but not really, though Honor Harrington even goes downhill in the later novels.
