Airline Security

SNL actually did a funny skit, or at least I think it's funny. Airline Security is simply retarded.

Did any one watch the Heroes Season Finale last night? Not to give anything away but that was the Star Wars Episode One of Season Finales. Extended Entry has my comments.

The Wild Ride

The Bike Rally Saturday went really well. I surprised myself by being able to complete the 40 mile route will no problems. I thought it would kill me, but the weather was so nice it didn't wear me out as much as I thought. The rally itself was very well organized. The route was clearly marked, there were police officers directing traffic at most of the major intersections, and the rest stops were really nice. I'd pay $35 anytime to have a planned out Bike rally like that. I'm going to try the 50 mile route on the next rally, unless I can get Elanna to come, in which case I'll do what ever route she feels comfortable with.

In other news, Blizzard announced their new game. Not a Starcraft MMO like everyone thought but Starcraft 2. Which is probably pretty smart, why make a new MMO that's just going to pull people away from World of Warcraft.

He's Fine

All the excitement around here the past day has been about Phlome's Arm. He's out of the hospital now, but he has to take Blood Thinners for about the next six months, as well as some shots over the next week. At least they didn't make him stay in the hospital till tomorrow. It's very boring. I've been there. It sucks.

Phlome is doing well. He must be, I think he went from the hospital back to work.

Educational

I've started my next Master's Degree class. It's titled "Managing Information Security" but it's really the Prep course for the CISSP exam. If you're a regular reader, you'll remember I passed the CISSP exam back in February, so I'm a little ahead of the class. It also appears to be the easiest class in terms of coursework that I've had so far. Class participation and 2 exams are all that's required, most of the other classes required that plus a team project and term paper. I'm not complaining.

Tomorrow I'm teaching a class myself. One of my customers happens to be local this time, so instead of having to fly somewhere to teach the class I just have to drive across town. I need more jobs like this.

Elanna bought a shiny new bike last night. I highly recommend Plano Cycling. I know everyone says Richardson Bike Mart is great, and it definitely is, but the folks at Plano Cycling were very helpful in finding just the right bike for Elanna. She's very happy.

In Training

Okay so the goal of posting at least Monday thru Friday has yet to be met.

For a weekend where we didn't really have anything planned we actually did a lot. Friday we celebrated our Bren's Birthday at Ferre. Her Sister and brother in law, who are friends of mine as well, were in town so it as good to see them. Saturday, we spent some time at the Racetrack at Grand Praire. I won a whopping $2.62 on one race, but Elanna won $27 and Phlome was the big winner with a $120 trifecta.

Sunday we made our second trip to Scarborough Faire with nearly the whole Dallas crew. It was hot but not too bad. I got a hat to go with my medieval outfit and Elanna bought a whole new outfit.

Today we are headed to the Bike shop (Plano Cycling) to get Elanna a bike. She's been borrowing one from a friend for a few weeks and decided she likes it enough to get her own.

I'm going to try my first "real" ride this Saturday. The "Wild Ride" in Richardson. It a cancer benefit so I figure I have a vested interest. I'm going to do the 40 mile ride. I don't think I'm up for 62 miles quite yet. I've ridden 30 miles before without too much trouble, I figure I can push it and do 10 more miles.

Dungeon and Dragon

Dragon Magazine and Dungeon magazine will cease to be this September. For the less geeky among you these are the official magazines of Dungeons and Dragons Role Playing Game. (And if you don't know what Dungeons and Dragons is go back to your cave now.) Wizards of the Coast says they will be replaced by an online version. It's not quite the same. I have been reading these magazines almost as long as I could read. I remember getting my first Dragon magazine from my parents as a Valentines Day gift when I was in 4th Grade. I have the first 250 issues of the magazine on CD-ROM. My current D&D campaign, Blue Steel, has been adventuring through the Age of Worms campaign published in Dungeon over the past year. Hopefully, the online version will be just as good.

How was Spidey 3? Meh.

I'm trying to force myself to blog most days though I doubt I'll go as far as to blog a trip to the bathroom.

This weekend the wife and I headed home to Oklahoma to see the family and celebrate mother's day a little early. Elanna was very happy as she got to she multiple babies multiple times.

We also managed to see Spider-Man 3. It definitely didn't suck but it wasn't up to the standards of the first movies. I wouldn't say there was plot holes you could drive a mack truck through, but there were a few that a dog sled could have slid right into. It just seemed like everyone knew what everyone else was doing, all the time, even though they had no reason to. This didn't stop it from smashing all box office records. A title I expect it may only hold for a few weeks till Harry Potter, Pirates 3, or Transformers outsells it.

Biking in the Rain

I decided to go Biking yesterday at River Legacy Park in Arlington. It was a little cloudy off in the distance but sunny for the most part. I rode about 5 miles down the trail when it stared to rain. I turned around to head back to the car but it quickly became a downpour. I was soaked to the bone in a matter of seconds. Once I was soaked, riding in the rain didn't really mater all that much so I continued on back to the car. Unfortunately, it got worse. At one point it was raining so hard I couldn't see and the wind was blowing so strong it about blew the bike over. I still had about 3 miles to go so I kept going, wondering if I was going to be sucked up by a tornado at any moment. I managed to make it to the underpass that is about a mile from the parking lot. I waited out the worst of the storm there.

Goth Hairdressers

I heard this commentary on NPR a while back. It's Andrei Codrescu commenting on his recent haircut. The part of the story that stuck with me was "All beauticians are now ex-Goth, who suddenly got to be 28 years old, looked in the mirror, and got scared by their own tattoos. Then, they went to beauty school." I got a haircut myself today, and you know, I think it's true.

Reading

I just finshed Codelia's Honor by Lois McMaster Bujold which is the first book of the Vorkosigan Saga.
Very good book, but the Sci-Fi bits are really secondary to the story.

Right now I'm reading The Lost Fleet Series by John Hemry/Jack Campbell It's sorta Honor Harrington but not really, though Honor Harrington even goes downhill in the later novels.
