D&D 4th Edition

Wizards issued a press release today that has all the details, well okay not all the details but some of them. The new Players Handbook will come out May 2008. It will also have heavy online support called D&D insider. Which is probably what they are replacing Dungeon and Dragon with.

In other news, For those of you that know Marc and his trek across Alaska, he is doing good. No bears yet.

From his girlfriend, "He is doing well (except for his ass...which he says REALLY hurts). He is taking today off to go soak in some hot springs and rest a little. Animals seen on this leg: wolves, bald eagle, and a very mean buffalo."

The end of an Era

I wrote before about the discontinuation of Dragon and Dungeon Magazine. When I arrived back from our cruise I had received both of the Final issues in the mail. Supposedly, it is continuing in some online form, but WOTC has yet to announce anything about it. I highly recommend picking up the last issue of Dragon if you are or ever were a fan of D&D, it has some great articles on the history of D&D and the magazine.

In other news, Elanna and I were somewhat accosted last night on our bike ride at White Rock Lake.

Elanna was climbing the one hill we include on our route, and some guy passed her very close.
She told him he was "too close", which I think responded with "What?"
She said " You passed me too close." He then proceeded to swear outrageously at her.
I was about 30 yards up from them at this point and I turned around and yelled "What's your problem?"
I swear this dude proceeds to throw some kind of adult temper tantrum.
He jumped off his bike, red faced, screamed some more obscenities at me, and told me to come over there and see what his problem was. According to Elanna he also threated to cut off parts of my anatomy, I didn't hear that part.
I believe I said something brilliant like "Whoah calm down."
He then proceeded to explain that he was too out of breath to inform her that he was going to pass to close.
Well maybe but he sure wasn't too out of breath to swear at both of us.
By this point Elanna was well past him, so I rode on as well leaving the dude to his tantrum.
Apparently, that was enough for him, he turned around and rode the other way.

Back From Alaska

Well we are back from Alaska. It was great. We spent a day in Junea on a Whale watching excursion. Elanna got some great pictures, including one of a whale breaching! (See Below) We went on a very rainy bike ride through the Yukon in Skagway. The scenery was great but it was a little wet and cold. Wednesday we went up the Tracy Arm to see the Sawyer Glacier. Thursday we went on a "Wildlife" cruise in Ketchikan. I thought it was kind of a bust since all we saw were eagles and some deer, but Elanna enjoyed it. Friday we spent a few hours in Victoria, BC but not really long enough to do anything but go to dinner with Plome and Ninsi.

We are now preparing for our second trip of they year to Scotland and England for the Monketo wedding! We leave next Tuesday. On a somewhat related note, check out Zappos.com you can order shoes and they will ship them to you overnight for free. If they don't fit you can ship them back for free as well. This is great for me, I have a huge problem finding shoes that fit.

Here are a few of the Alaska pics:
This is the Humpback we saw breaching on our tour in Skagway.

He breached a second time. You can't really tell size in the picture but he's 46' long.

This is one of the better eagle pictures

These sea lions were napping on a Navigation Buoy.

The Sawyer Glacier in Tracy Arm.

Here is an Orca that was jumping near the Cruise Ship.

I'm not alone

I'm not alone in my fascination with Eye of Judgment's insanity.

Penny Arcade (which is where I heard about it) has created a comic, as well as a lengthy blog entry on the game itself.

I so want to play this game. I will so never buy all that crap, and this is coming from someone who regularly spends money on geek stuff that no one in their right mind would buy.

Reading

I just finshed Codelia's Honor by Lois McMaster Bujold which is the first book of the Vorkosigan Saga.
Very good book, but the Sci-Fi bits are really secondary to the story.

Right now I'm reading The Lost Fleet Series by John Hemry/Jack Campbell It's sorta Honor Harrington but not really, though Honor Harrington even goes downhill in the later novels.
