The Rollercoaster

Some of you may know some or all of this already but I haven't talked about any of it yet here.

If you've been following the blog you know that my wife and I have decided that this year is the year we will have children, that' s the plan anyway.

We've technically been trying for over 2 years without any success so we had recently gone to the fertility clinic. (Here's that story.) Well before we could even schedule the follow-up visit to the clinic we discovered that Nikki was pregnant! She had been feeling odd all week and the normal female processes had not yet begun so we were beginning to wonder. So on Friday (which was March 7th) I went and picked up a few pregnancy tests. After three positive results, we thought maybe we should get it confirmed by a medical professional. On Monday we went to the Doctor, and they confirmed that yes, she was pregnant.

We thought about waiting to tell everyone, but a few people already knew so we figured we'd just go ahead and let the cat out of the bag. We went out last Saturday for a celebratory dinner with friends and had a great time.

On Sunday, Nikki was feeling too well and was having some symptoms that caused us some concern. On Monday, we called the OB and after some confusion between their scheduling people we decided to go ahead and go in. The sonogram wasn't exactly positive but they told us to not get discouraged that the symptoms may all be nothing.

Sadly, the OB's office called Tuesday to tell us that the bloodwork showed a large decrease in the level of HCG in Nikki's blood, meaning that she was no longer pregnant.

We are very sad, but not discouraged. Miscarriages are fairly common and now at least we know we CAN get pregnant naturally. Hopefully, we will have good news very soon!

I'm sorry. My thoughts are with you and Nikki.

I'm so sorry :( Give her a tender hug from me and when she returns it that's from me too, k?

You know I love you both dearly right? I'm praying for strength and healing for both of you and that this will only be a minor set back. I don't want you to have to wait so long for another pregnancy!

Reading

I just finshed Codelia's Honor by Lois McMaster Bujold which is the first book of the Vorkosigan Saga.
Very good book, but the Sci-Fi bits are really secondary to the story.

Right now I'm reading The Lost Fleet Series by John Hemry/Jack Campbell It's sorta Honor Harrington but not really, though Honor Harrington even goes downhill in the later novels.
